FEATURE 03 — LIST OR BOARD

The same kata project as a list on one iPhone and a kanban board on another

Board view for moving work. List view for finishing it.

In board view, a task’s heading is its column. Drag a card from Design to Build and its heading changes; open the list and it’s under Build. Cards show the day a task is scheduled and its subtask ring, so you can see what’s in flight without opening anything.

A project opens as a list, and Board is one tap away whenever the work wants columns. Client work can live on a board; the grocery list never has to become one.

The details

One tap to switch
List and Board sit in the project’s header. A project opens as a list, and Board is a tap away.
Headings are columns
Every heading becomes a column, in the same order as the list. Tasks without a heading sit in a last column, Uncategorized.
Drag to move
Press and hold a card to lift it. Drop it in another column to change its heading, or anywhere in its own to reorder. Columns move the same way.
Cards show what matters
The title, the day it is scheduled, the subtask ring and the priority highlight — nothing else.
Add in place
The dashed slot at the foot of a column adds a task under that heading; the + beside a column’s name adds a new heading after it.
Sideways on the phone
Columns scroll sideways, so a project with many stages still fits in your hand. Hold a card at the edge and the board scrolls under it.

Questions about board view

Is a board a different kind of project?

No. It is the same project, drawn differently. Add a task in board view and it is in the list, under the same heading. Nothing is copied or synced between two versions.

Can I have a “Done” column?

Finished tasks stay where they are, struck through, so each column shows how far its stage has come. The Log keeps the record of what was finished.

Can I use board view for an area?

No. Boards are for projects; an area’s headings group its tasks in a list.
